Still at work.  Today is Wednesday.  Only one more day for the weekend which is Friday for us.   Last 2 days have been hectic.  It is now just before 8 pm and I‘m still at work, waiting for a load to finish and a live demo to start with all the hotshots in town.  I feel a little bad for Lisa, but tomorrow is her last day and we did plan on going for beers.  I don‘t know how that is going to end now.

Not much to tell.  I‘ve been trying to load this one indicator this whole day.  It is a population median which of course is not a normal median (the „middle“ value in a string of values, not the average).  The document I got to explain the calculation had this formula:

Median Age = A + (X – Y)/F * L

Doesn‘t look too complicated, huh?  Except the explanations on what each of these letters meant were all in Arabic.  That does complicate things a bit.  Anyway, eventually got it down.  Needed to create 18 bloody views to load this!  1 for each possible combination of dimension hierarchy levels.  Luckily I had only 3 hierarchies with 3,3,2 levels respectively which gives us 3*3*2 = 18.  This of course is due the the curse of the fully solved fact table which makes loading tricky if you can‘t use the CUBE and ROLLUP operators as in this case.

Factoid:  Qataris were around 11.000 (eleven thousand) in 1907.  Even Icelanders were around 80.000 in that time (I think).

Anyway, demo is starting and my load is finished.
